The President of the Chamber of Counselors, Enaam Mayara, held talks in Mexico with the President of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies, Marcela Guerra Castillo.
During this meeting, the two parties discussed matters of common interest, including cooperation in the agricultural sector, managing irregular migration, renewable energies, as well as the development of high value-added industries.
On this occasion, Ms. Guerra Castillo commended the progress made by Morocco in various fields, particularly in the industrial and renewable energy sectors, as well as in combating terrorism and irregular migration.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Ambassador of Morocco to Mexico, Abdelfattah Lebbar, the Mexican official expressed her country's desire to strengthen cooperation with the Kingdom in these areas.
The President of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies indicated that the positive evolution of parliamentary relations between Rabat and Mexico is conducive to giving a strong impetus to their multisectoral cooperation, in a regional and international context marked by numerous challenges. She recalled the "fruitful" meeting she had with Mr. Mayara on the sidelines of COP28 in the United Arab Emirates.
She also expressed her great appreciation for Morocco, where she has made several visits, noting that with each visit, she observes firsthand the sustained development that the Kingdom is experiencing, especially in terms of infrastructure that preserves the character of a millennia-old cultural heritage.
For his part, Mr. Mayara, on a working visit to Mexico at the invitation of the President of the Mexican Senate, Ana Lilia Rivera, indicated that the two countries share potential and challenges, highlighting the prospects for strengthening cooperation in parliamentary, economic, and political fields.
In this regard, he emphasized the significant cooperation opportunities in the agriculture, fertilizer, aerospace, automotive industries, and green hydrogen sectors, adding that parliamentary cooperation between the respective institutions of the two countries has notably strengthened in recent years.
The President of the Chamber of Counselors also discussed investment and South-South cooperation opportunities between Morocco, which serves as the gateway to Africa to the world, and Mexico, which represents an important economic force in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Mr. Mayara's visit to Mexico (February 20-24) aims particularly at strengthening bilateral parliamentary relations.
The Moroccan delegation also includes Mr. Abderrahmane Ouafa, Abdelkader Salama, and Ahmed Lakhrif, representatives of the Chamber of Counselors respectively to the Latin American Parliament (PARLATINO), the Andean Parliament, and the Central American Parliament.
